A Kingsway Academy student has won the Joytime competition following a fantastic musical performance. Lucy Wood has won first prize at Joytime, the longest running talent show in the UK. She won the competition following her fantastic performance of a song and paino accompaniment, written and created by herself.
Lucy said – “I am delighted to have won first prize. Gaining the recognition that a song I have written myself is prize worthy is absolutely amazing. I have always loved music and it has been a huge passion of mine. This has given me courage to continue writing my own songs and creating my own music.”
Three students from The Kingsway Academy reached the finals of the competition. With Lucy winning first prize, and Charlie, a Year 11 students coming in second. The finals took place at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton, following auditions and semi-finals stages held in the bandstand in Vale Park.
Principal Mrs Potter said – “The Kingsway Academy has a long history of excelling in brilliant stage shows and productions so we are delighted to see one of our students go on to win this competition for her own original work. It is inspiring for our students to see, and encourages them to take part in activities they enjoy. We work with our students to develop these skills in extracurricular activities such as Music, and it is so rewarding to see it pay off.”
Lucy will perform her award winning song at The Kingsway Academy celebration evening.
