A group of Year 12 students have submitted their artwork for consideration as part of a competition held by local screen printing collective The Critter Shed.
The entrants were asked to create an A5 design interpreting the theme ‘Creatures of the Night’. All entries were required to be black and white, with students being given four weeks to complete their designs including research, conceptual development and layout.
The Critter Shed judges were impressed by the work of our Sixth Form students and eventually managed to decide on the top three submissions.
The posters were judged on their response to the brief, technical execution and creativity. Third place was awarded to Sophie W, while Jack K finished second.
Ashleigh M was awarded first place for her creative piece of artwork that grabbed the judges attention and really experimented with the brief of the competition.
The students will now submit their artwork for consideration into the local exhibition to be featured in a public gallery in the city centre. If they are successful, their work will be screen printed and featured in an exhibition tour around the UK at Illustration events. It will also be sold in exclusive packs that will feature on The Crittershed website.
Creative Learning Coach Adam Cain arranged the collaboration with The Critter Shed and said:
“Alex and Chris of Critter Shed found it really hard to choose a winner as the quality of work was so high. They were blown away by the effort put in to the entries submitted by our students. They believe that it is fantastic for our students to get these kind of opportunities, as it is something they both wished they could have had access to when they were younger.”
