Students Build Footsteps of Faith Smartphone App

Four students from The Studio have spent the past year mapping the history of Liverpool’s major faith communities to celebrate the launch of Liverpool’s Footsteps of Faith: a cutting-edge Smartphone App designed by the Liverpool Community Spirit (LCS) Youth Council.

Our students were invited to support a larger group of young people to explore the impact faith has had on the Liverpool that we know and love. They visited local places of worship, joined in with faith festivals, interviewed members of faith communities and researched evidence from the Central Library Archives and Liverpool Museum.

To showcase their findings the young people have worked in partnership with leading app developers Draw & Code to create the Liverpool’s Footsteps of Faith App which will feature mapped faith heritage trails, audio interviews, video footage, photographs, illustrations and 3D augmented realities of the Cathedrals, Mosque and Synagogue.

Following the launch of the app, the Youth Council will be working with local groups and schools through assemblies and workshops to promote the positive impact that faith communities have had on Liverpool over the years and the wider message that stronger communities are built from people understanding and respecting each other.  Schools across our region will be able to follow in Liverpool’s Footsteps of Faith by continually adding to the app.  This dynamic learning resource is set to lead the way in promoting positive community spirit across the whole region.

Helen Dring, Learning Coach at The Studio, supported our Sixth Form students throughout the development process. She said:

“Faith sites are an important part of Liverpool heritage and our students have been able to see this for themselves through the development of an app that provides 3D images of the synagogue and mosque. Our students have worked closely with local developers Draw & Code to develop their coding skills and helped to finalise the build of the app.

The project was funded by grants from the National Lottery’s Heritage Lottery Fund and other independent grant-making trusts.

The Studio is hosting the launch of Liverpool’s Footsteps of Faith App as part of the Liverpool Community Spirit Annual Celebration on Thursday 4th December 2014.
