Graduate from The Studio Secures Industry Apprenticeship

A Sixth Form Graduate from The Studio has secured an apprenticeship with creative design agency Citrus Suite.

Based in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, The Studio works closely with local companies and industry experts to ensure all students are industry ready upon graduation.

Immediately after leaving The Studio Christian was offered an apprenticeship at Citrus Suite in response to his impressive portfolio of industry skills.

Citrus Suite are a creative design studio who have developed a series of award winning mobile apps for global clients including Penguin Books US and Public Health England. Chris Morland, CEO at Citrus Suite hired Christian before he had even received his A Level results. He said:

“We’re really happy to have found someone from The Studio who can easily transition into a real-life working studio. We’re not in a position to take someone one who is completely raw, and spend the full twelve months of an apprenticeship getting them up to a workable level where they can contribute, but Christian’s already got the skills and he’s more than capable of producing good work.

“Although his specialty is graphic design, he’s proven to us that he’s got a solid, versatile skill set and every day we can give him more and more responsibilities. We’ve got some big projects coming in and we’re glad to have him on board. We’re at the stage now where he’s one of the team, and we’d be seriously set back without him. Hats off to Christian for being so talented, and to The Studio for supporting him in becoming industry-ready.”

Christian is now working as an apprentice for Citrus Suite at their Jamaica Street office in the Baltic Triangle. He said:

“The step up to a real studio has been a big one, but it’s taught me a lot. I’m building my portfolio fast, and honing my skills every day. As well as building on my knowledge from The Studio, I’m learning a lot of new skills and developing every day.

“I’m enjoying being in a small team rather than working at a large organisation: it means I can clearly see how responsibilities are divided and get a flavour of what everyone else is doing every day. I feel like I fit right in, like I’m one of the team.

“It was through The Studio that I got my foot in the door at Citrus Suite. The school is the only one I know of that has such strong connections with a thriving creative community on their doorstep, and that counts for a lot. As part of the course you have to conceive and carry out a full project from idea to finished product, which teaches you things like workflow and where the gaps in your skill set are.”

“I was tempted by University but this just seemed to make so much more sense. Here, I can learn the skills directly from a business and dodge the expensive fees in the process. I can learn from the industry instead of just about it. I’ve not written the possibility of formally studying off completely, but for now this is the right thing to do.”
