On Thursday 15th February the Life Sciences UTC hosted their first ever Half Term Health Fayre Event.
Backed by healthcare professionals from across the city region, the morning saw a buzz of activity take place in the Health suite – with sixth form students performing life-saving trauma scenarios on SIM man Craig (the UTC’s very own advanced simulator for training in emergencies.) The NHS Blood and Transplant service stopped by to discuss all things phlebotomy, and members of the UTC’s year 12 Nursing Cadet team demonstrated a series of interactive first aid techniques including CPR.
The Cadets commented: “The Cadet Programme we recently started with the UTC and The Royal Hospital prepares you perfectly for university entry onto nursing, social work, youth work, paramedic or other related health or care degrees. The health fayre allowed us to be face to face with students our own age who had any burning questions and wanted to know what it’s really like getting to do hands-on work on a real ward!”
The second half of the morning allowed visitors access to a popup healthcare marketplace. Stalls included University of Central Lancashire (UCLA), University of Liverpool, The Brook, and Edge Hill University – providing students the chance to ask questions, talk up their skills and make important connections.
Health Sector Skills Champion Hannah Randles noted: “We were keen to give attendees and prospective students the opportunity to explore the myriad of options that are available to them when it comes to choosing a career in health or social care, and hosting our very own health fayre gave us the perfect platform to do this.
