UTC Open Evening Success

North Liverpool Academy recently hosted the Liverpool Life Sciences UTC open evening. The event aimed to introduce and entice young people aged 14 – 19 and parents, to the benefits of studying for a career in the scientific and healthcare industries.

The event was a great success, attracting more than 50 students from the Liverpool region. Guests were treated to cakes and biscuits, demonstrations from healthcare professionals as well as opportunities to discuss course details with the UTC teams and industry representatives.

A presentation then covered everything from curriculum plans to facilities and also included guest speaker, Geoff Wainwright from MerseyBIO. North Liverpool Academy students finally closed with presentations detailing their hands-on experiences of placements in Life Sciences providing potential students and parents with a real flavour of what to expect from this course.

Kay Askew, Principal of North Liverpool Academy, said: “We were delighted to see so many people at the open evening. It really highlighted the growing significance of the scientific and healthcare industries and we are happy to have already received a number of applications from students keen to enrol in 2013”.
