Liverpool’s new Life Sciences University Technical College proves magnet for female students

Girl power is set to flourish at an ultra-modern new city science college – with officials revealing the majority of applicants are female.

The Post can reveal that girls are flocking to the new Life Sciences University Technical College opening in the city’s historic Contemporary Urban Centre, in Jamaica Street.

The Grade II-listed Baltic Triangle base, which has undergone a £4.5m transformation, will welcome 14 to 19 year-olds and is designed for “the next generation of scientists, engineers and health workers”.

And today, after it was confirmed around three-quarters of applicants are female, delighted campaigners said it was an important victory in the fight for more women to break into the traditionally male-dominated science sector.
