On Friday 3rd March, Lord Goddard of Stockport visited Wigan UTC to speak to Year 10 & 12 students as part of the ‘Lord Speaker’s Peers in Schools Programme’.
The event provided Wigan UTC students with the opportunity to learn about the roles, functions and workings of the House of Lords and the UK Parliament in general. The students also took the opportunity to converse with the Life Peer about a range of topics, including constitutional topics such as Brexit and Scottish independence along with more practical matters concerning the inner workings of Parliament.
As someone who came from a humble background in the North-West and worked in Engineering before achieving his peerage, Lord Goddard is an excellent role model for the students at Wigan UTC, who found him engaging and informative.
The staff and students at the academy would like to thank Lord Goddard for providing the students with this opportunity to learn more about a vital component of our political system.
