Monica Tomlinson, leads on safeguarding for Liverpool Life Sciences UTC. Monica is the heart and soul of Liverpool Life Sciences UTC. She is the all-seeing eye, the unjudging ear, the shoulder to cry on, the firm hand and the relentless supporter of all students and staff at the UTC. Monica acts swiftly and professionally to deal with a range of extremely significant, challenging and traumatic safeguarding and child protection incidents to ensure that our young people are safe and mentors them to build strength, resilience and move on with their lives. Monica does not rest until she is able to ensure the right outcomes for our students. She is calm, reassuring and shows strength and resilience in all situations. The UTC would be lost without her.

Monica has worked within education support in Liverpool for over 15 years. In this time she has been recognised a staggering four times at a number of schools by Ofsted for outstanding leadership of behaviour and welfare. In her role at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, in January 2016 Ofsted recognised Monica and her team saying:

“”The UTC’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding. The UTC is relentless in ensuring that pupils are safe within and beyond the building.”

“The behaviour of pupils is outstanding. Excellent conduct, engagement in learning and significantly improved attendance are enabling pupils, including those who may have been disaffected earlier in their school lives, to make strong progress and believe in their futures.”

“The UTC is conspicuously successful in turning round the lives of young people.”

“The UTC is a haven for pupils.”

Well done Monica, we are extremely proud of you!
