It’s not even December yet and we’re already getting festive here at NLA. You may have noticed the Christmas spirit creeping into our social media over the past week. In case you’ve missed any of the action from across our social platforms, here’s a quick rundown of what we’ve been up to at NLA this week…
Wellbeing is a top priority here at NLA, and this week’s teacher briefing introduced the launch of our Wellbeing Advent Calendar, which will start on Monday 2 December and run all the way until we break up for the holidays. Included on the calendar are tasks such as, ‘leave a small treat or surprise for someone’, ‘let someone know how much their support means to you’, and ‘nominate someone for the Wellbeing Star of the Week’. If you’d like to join in with our Wellbeing Advent Calendar – and we think it would be a great idea if you do – then head over to our Twitter where you can find a day by day breakdown of activities.
This week also saw the announcement of our Winter Wonderland event, which is taking place on Thursday 19 December from 4:30pm, and all are welcome. On the evening you can expect reindeers, bouncy castles, Christmas market stalls, Christmas carols, a grotto and much more… Keep your eyes peeled across our social media accounts over the next couple of weeks for more information about our festive event.
It’s also been a week of achievement here at NLA, as our girls’ netball team took part in the Year 7 LSSP Netball Tournament and came in 5th place. We’re very proud of the whole team – well done!
We also saw six of our students rank in the top 10% nationally for their UK Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge this week. The successful students have been invited to take part in an online computer science competition in March – congratulations to all the students involved!
Speaking of computer science, this week, our Year 9s have been getting to grips with the ‘Little Man Computer’ simulation as part of their Systems Architecture unit. Head over to our Twitter page to see some photos of what they’ve been getting up to…
This week was also the UWC Atlantic Student ‘Decolonisation’ conference which was filled with music, poetry and a range of workshops for our students to get involved in.
We’ve got plenty of events and activities ahead over the coming weeks here at NLA, follow us on social media to see things as they’re happening! Until next week…
