UTC becomes first school in the UK to gain a Surgeon in residence

Life Sciences UTC is delighted to welcome our brand new Surgeon-in-residence Tom Hampton.

Joining from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Dr Hampton is an Ear Nose and Throat Surgery Registrar currently training at Alder Hey children’s Hospital.

In between work and teaching for The University of Liverpool and The University of Brighton & Sussex, Tom will be visiting our school once a month, giving students a unique opportunity to pick the brains of an industry professional.

Over the course of they year, Tom will be assisting our Year 13 budding medics with the likes of Q&A’s, talking through the university application processes, and giving top tips on what a day in the life of a paediatric surgeon is really like.

Over Year 12, Year 11 and Year 12 students have already been benefiting from unique presentations and seminars, providing them insight into the background of a surgeon and informing them of the skills, experience and dedication it takes to become proficient in their chosen field.

We’re excited to see how such professional expertise inspires our young people going forward. Thank you Tom! What a fantastic opportunity for our students.

Keep your eyes peeled on our website and Twitter for upcoming dates of when you can catch our surgeon-in-residence and watch this space as Tom will be leading sessions, medical interview practise and even presenting as a speaker for the next UTC Transmits events (more info on this coming soon!)

The Care Academy at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC allows students the opportunity to develop their health and social care skills within the NHS and the wider healthcare sector.
